This is my project. It is on the unknown Hydrothermal vents which lie on the sea floor. This report will tell you about what we know about these vents now, and what we could know to shape our future.Hydrothermal vents are very easy to break, so scientist have to be careful why'll they study them or they can fall over. These vents spew extremly hot, mineral-rich water that helps a large diverse community of organisms. Their are two types of Hydrothermal vents, hotter vents are called Black Smokers, and the cooler ones are called White Smokers. The first Hydrothermal vent was discovered in 1977 of the coast of the Galapagos Islands. These vents can be about 7,000 ft. deep. The waters around the vent are mostly around 750 degrees F. They're pretty much geyeser under the sea. The largest one on record was called Godzilla, and it was equal to a fifteen story building! Unfortunatly when they were measuring it , it toppled over. Now it's in the prosess of rebuilding. It was located in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Oregon. Scientist have found that these vents may be why our oceans aren't too cold or not too hot for us to be in. The vents balance the world. Now scientist are trying to see if say the bacteria used by the tubeworms down there, can be made into new drugs to try and help people with bad sicknesses. Now you see that these vents may be able to shape our future.
